FOURTEEN
A Penumbra-Designs fashion runway, presented at ModaSofia2025
Design and execution by Irina Tsapreva
ABOUT THIS PROJECT:
When the team at ModaSofia approached me with the opportunity to present my own runway show at their event, I couldn’t say no.
“Fourteen” is a series of fourteen costumes, each representing a different human fear. Every look is centered around an interactive tie (an Enti-tie) and serves as a love letter to a wide range of horror media. While the categorization of these fears is based on the “Smirke’s Fourteen” model introduced in the British podcast “The Magnus Archives”, each character I created reflects my own experiences and feelings about its respective theme.
I approached this non-profit runway project as a cosplayer rather than solely as a designer, intending to create believable characters. Because of that, I chose to work with fellow cosplayers, K-pop dancers, and drag artists instead of fashion models. With only six months to develop the designs and craft the costumes, and with minimal outsourcing, “Fourteen” is my most ambitious project to date – a testament to what hard work, resilience, and a clear creative vision can achieve.
